Baronial Polling 2024

Baroness Kloe of Thira and Baron Arion the Wanderer have served the Barony well and faithfully for years, and they are preparing to step down. Who will step up to fill their shoes? Three sets of candidates have stepped up to be considered as our next Coronets.

What is polling?

Although new Coronets are ultimately selected by the King & Queen of An Tir, they take the wishes of the populace of Dragon’s Laire into consideration. This process — of meeting the candidates, asking them about their vision, and then telling the Crown which you would prefer — is called polling. All the polling results will be summarized at the Kingdom level and used to guide the selection of our new Coronets.

First, the populace will have time to learn about the candidates through their SCA resumes and letters of intent. There will also be opportunities to meet the candidates in person.

Then, the actual polling will be run by a Kingdom deputy. Polling for Dragon’s Laire will happen between September 8th – 15th (details below).

Finally, the ceremonies for Step-Down/Step-Up will happen at Harvest Feast (link to event info), on October 19th, with Their Majesties in attendance (= this will be a Royal Court).

In-person opportunities to meet the candidates were held on August 20 and September 3. Both sessions were live-streamed by Jacques Luis de Normandie and recordings can be found on our Official Facebook Group.

The Polling Process

Read here the words from our Kingdom Polling Deputy:

Greetings to the fair Barony of Dragon’s Laire, the time draws near for the commencement of your Baronial Selection polling.
Your polling is slated to begin at 12:01am on September 8th 20th, 2024 and close at midnight on September 15th, 2024.

To prepare- please make sure that you have set up an account with antir.org, this will take a day or two as all accounts have to be approved by the web team. If you do not already have a login- please set one up now, to allow yourself the maximum amount of time to complete your polling. You can apply for access here: An Tir Account Registration

On the day that the polling opens [Sept. 8th], you will see an announcement on the main An Tir page, with a link to follow. This announcement will also be shared on the appropriate Facebook groups as needed. The polling will be accessible through this link: https://antir.org/online-baronial-polling/

You will need to go to the above link, log into your profile on the An Tir Page, and then you may begin the polling near the bottom of that page. It will start by asking you to please put in your Name, Membership number and zip code. The page will auto fill in your Branch based on our zip code database.

Once those items are input, you will be directed to 1 of 2 pages:
– If you live within the borders of the Polling Barony (as defined by your zip code) you will be taken to a page with details about the first couple, please fill in the support statement (multiple choice) and follow up with any thoughts or opinions you wish the crown to hear when making their decision. You will then continue through a new page for each candidate couple until you submit all at the end. You may come back and change/update your entries until the polling form closes on the above-mentioned date.
– If you do not live within the Polling Barony (as defined by your zip code) you will be taken to a page that is an email template form to their Majesties’ email address. Please feel free to register your thoughts/opinions in this form about Any and ALL candidates. Once submitted, this email will be sent directly to their Majesties for consideration.
* Please note- each registered member in the household can only submit 1 version of the form through the website for each Antir.org login. (You will need to register each member with their own email address).
