Judge:
Includes both verbal presentation of the entry and any display used to support the entry, as well as the ability of the entrant to discuss the entry, its process, its challenges, and to field questions.
Notes / Comments:
Evaluation of how closely the item resembles historic examples as well as how closely the item conforms to historic aesthetics and expectations of period craftsmanship.
Evaluation of how closely the entrant adhered to historical processes in producing the item, the steps taken to create the entry, and how 'historical' these steps were.
Evaluates the level of technical ability in the use of historical skill set(s) appropriate to the process of creating the piece. Also evaluates the craftsmanship of the piece compared to craftsmanship of historical examples.
Evaluates the level of difficulty, challenge, and level of ambition represented by the entry. The complexity of a piece should be compatible to historical examples. Entrants do not need to execute every aspect of a piece; however, the entrant should be the sole artisan of the aspects of the piece being judged.
Evaluates how historically appropriate the entry is as well as how closely the item adheres to the use of historic materials and/or methods. Also includes reasonable rationale for the use of modern substitutions due to safety concerns, costs, or unavailability.
Describes the historical context of the item — who may have made and/or used the item, when (what time period) the item is situated, where (geographically and/or socially) the item is situated, and what were the known and possible uses of the item. Also establishes the context of all aspects of the entry in relation to other things of its type.)
